The House On The Edge Of The Graveyard

The House On The Edge Of The Graveyard

Leiya and her family had just moved into their new house. It was on the outskirts of the city near an old graveyard. The house was quite pretty and they had had no issues about the cemetery they were living near.

On Halloween night, Leiya’s parents had to go out for dinner so they asked her to look after her two younger sisters. It was a moonless night and the dreadful crows cawed in a cacophony and the swift wind blowing outside was audible even with the doors.

After dinner, the sisters went up to their rooms. They were all about to sleep when suddenly they heard some noise from downstairs. Scared, they all went downstairs to check. To their surprise, they could see no one there, but they could still hear the loud, piercing, earsplitting noise which had aroused them clear as day.

They soon traced it to a side of the staircase. There, they found a door. Carefully opening it, they went inside, ensuring they left the door open. They went down the short, steep stairs. And there, they saw a horde of people of all ages, screaming at the top of their lungs.

Their eyes were white and lifeless as though they couldn’t see a thing, yet when the sisters stepped in, all the heads simultaneously turned to them, never stopping their cries. Their whole bodies were grey and decaying, yet upon seeing the girls their arms shot out to greet them.

Scared beyond words, the sisters ran back up the stairs like their life depended on it, because for all they knew, it did. Just as they reached the top, Leiya stopped. She was sure she had left the door open. They banged on the door and screamed for help. Luckily for them, at that very moment their parents came back. They heard their kids screaming and ran to the hidden door. All three kids rushed out, running towards their parents and hugged them tightly.

After recounting their story, Leiya noticed her parents sharing a worried look. Not wanting to scare her sisters, Leiya took her parents to another room and asked them whether they knew anything about what they’d seen. To this, her mother responded with eyes full of fear, ”We don’t know much about these things you saw but what we do know is,” she paused, looking at her husband. “This house doesn't have a basement.”
