Guest Post 1 : Skies of Supremacy by @Celia_Fell_In_Love_With_Hope

One moment I was staring at the night sky, a chilled apple cider mocktail in hand, and the next, I was back in a situation I swore I would never be in again.

The woman at the end of our lane had frantically called the fire department. Seeing the sky aflame in streaks of orange and red, I knew I had to confront the situation. I had been summoned by the Force.

The ‘ship’ - if that is a reasonable description for a vessel composed entirely of high-frequency sound - hovered behind the ruins of the Mughal watchtower. The sound waves created a surreal enclosure: a vortex emitting a fiery glow. The flames parted as I approached and strode quickly to the centre.

The two-year-old boy in the pilot’s seat looked up and grinned. “Guess who we snared while we awaited your arrival?”  Before I could answer, a muffled sniffling grew louder. I turned and saw my two brothers - entrapped between sheets of glass, impaled by an invisible glue. They looked like they were asleep, suspended in a void.

Daisy burst into a deafening cackle. For a millisecond, his human form morphed into his true alien identity, and he flickered, appearing only as an explosion of embers from a bonfire. “I’m sorry to blackmail you here, but you must assume your rightful place before I can trust you. We need to know we command your loyalty! Until the assigned task is completed, think of this as our insurance policy. Your brothers will accompany me on an adventure. Only for a few weeks…that should be enough time for you to complete your ‘little task’”. He reappeared as a toddler, sucking on his thumb, grinning foolishly. “Off you go now!”

Before those words had registered, I felt myself falling. The seconds that followed were not a blur. This was the space I could use to think. As I fell, a field came into focus. Crashing into the ground, I knew I would survive, just like Gloria Gaynor’s song had assured me, but not my faith. Nor my broken heart. The Force always thought themselves superior. They were greedy, selfish and narcissistic. The human world I was about to re-enter was no different.

I was the connection between this equation. Two power-hungry empires battling for supremacy that could not exist. I had no intention of ever being a part of them again. This wasn’t the compromise we had agreed to, but I was too tired to decline. As the new ambassador to Earth, I would have to suffer this punishment for disgracing the Force. Alone.
